Entry Description

A new Cancer Center, Children’s Hospital Tower, and connecting auditorium-link revitalize this University medical campus. Our lighting conveys welcome and comfort, in addition to reinforcing architectural forms inspired by the surrounding wetlands.
A water-motif suffuses the Children’s Hospital lobby. Grazers highlight mosaic “bubbles” and large ceiling fixtures enrich the imagery. To reduce patients’ anxiety, their rooms are outfitted with color-changing LEDs that allow children to personalize their environments using bedside controls.
Decorative fixtures that reinforce the architectural forms are used throughout to mark entry and circulation points. Pendants reinforce the ellipse at the auditorium lobby arrival. Cylindrical glass lights follow a spiral stair down to the lower level.
In the auditorium, cove uplights accent the ceiling’s overlapping panels to emphasize the room’s sweeping arc.
At the double-height Cancer Center lobby, the water theme reemerges in a glass art feature. Layered, overlapping, animated LED circles suggest ripples. This feature embodies our cohesive lighting concept: celebration of nature, reinforcement of pure geometries, and a design to evoke delight.
