Project Location Valle de Bravo, Mexico
Entry DescriptionThe CDLV house is located in Valle de Bravo, a small town surrounded by a lush pine forrest in the central state of Mexico. The architects chose only four materials: a local stone for walls, concrete and wood for the structure and panels, and some elements of steel. The central volume is a double-height space that holds the dining table, the living room and the bar, that is visually connected to the terrace and outdoor dining area. The lighting concept was kept subtle yet powerful. A combination of indirect lighting - that reflects the warmth of the wooden roof structure to the space, and direct accent light - hidden between the wooden beams - to balance the light intensity and provide separated light moods within the space. The warmer more personal mood is achieved through decorative lamps. The building appears to shine through the vertical louvers and creates a pleasent view from the outside, as the clients sit around their pool. Outside the landscape and façade lighting is reduced to its minimal expression to respect the natural context. The smooth and warm lighting is coherent with the architectural intention and the client expectation.
