Entry Description

MARUWA R&D Center is a new factory and R&D hub for a manufacturer of ceramic substrate for electronic components, in Nagoya prefecture, Japan.
The project symbolizes the company’s vision for transformation – from being a manufacturer to becoming a trusted innovation partner, and celebrating the company’s core values through the concept of ‘innovation mine’, which ties into the idea of unearthing new value through MARUWA’s cutting-edge manufacturing facilities. The theme extends to the facade, which is designed like a geological formation of a mine. Horizontal louvres are tapered at unique angles to create a different effect for day and night; reflecting sunlight and when lit up by series of ground-recessed upper lights. Combination of lighting types such as full-colored spotlights allow the façade to express MARUWA’s corporate color timer-regulated and celebrate seasonal events.
Interior lighting follows the common theme and is composed mainly by linear lights, acquiring sufficient lighting levels for various rooms in delicate yet functional manner. Upper floor workplace is equipped with daylight sensors to auto-balance high-side daylight through the saw-tooth roof.
