BuzziHat

Prize(s) Honorable Mentions
Lighting Design/Product Company BuzziSpace
Lead Designers Alain Gilles for BuzziSpace
Completion Date March 2018
Project Location Belgium
Entry Description

Developed by Alain Gilles for workplace acoustics leader BuzziSpace, BuzziHat is a series of high-performance acoustic lighting that is intentionally designed to feel less technical with a playful, cartoon-like form.

Unlike many acoustic products which can feel bulky and take up crucial floor space, designer Alain Gilles set out to create a more elegant solution. The result: playful decorative "hats" that hang elegantly above one's head. BuzziHat pendants are extremely customizable with the option to mix-and-match finishes and materials. Its sound-absorbing upholstered foam body is available in a wide palette of color and fabric combinations, while the metal shade and ring detail are offered in five finishes (gold, black, white, beige and red). The upper module is also available in four different sizes to absorb more or less sound depending on the size of the room and need – ranging from a compact and rounded "cap," to a larger and more elongated "top hat" for maximum performance.
