Entry Description

Quetzal is a decorative luminaire that brings together past and present, tradition and innovation, integrating the essence of Mexico’s ancient roots with contemporary design.
Commissioned by renowned Interior Architect Paulina Moran, Quetzal is the result of a collective exploration in the search for a distinctive element that would give life to Chable Maroma, a luxurious boutique hotel in Mexico’s Caribbean coastline. The objective was to create a decorative lighting element combining natural and weather resistant materials together with a representative symbol from the region where the hotel is based.
UlaLight led the collaborative effort to create this sculptural piece by joining forces with a handicraft workshop named Layra based in Oaxaca City. This group manufactures sculptures using wire and handmade paper finished with resins. By adding light to Layra´s work, we created a combination of shapes, shadows and natural textures providing a sense of harmony andto the enviroment.
