Entry DescriptionThe Hogar Alemán is a residence for older adults developed by the German Benevolent Corporation, for which architect Max Núñez designed a 14,000 m² building.
The main challenge, beyond meeting the formal and technical criterias of architectural lighting, was to integrate the specific physiological and psychological needs of the elderly. The solutions implemented focused on ensuring high levels of illuminance with elevated visual comfort, creating a personalized atmosphere in the bedrooms, and generating luminous elements that visually define the bedrooms corridors and facilitate spatial orientation.
The building’s lighting systems are controlled through a centralized system, programmed in collaboration with the home’s technical teams. This system allows the automation of lighting scenes according to the time of day, ensuring both comfort and safety for the residents and maintening a very mínimum level at night for residents security.
Sustainability ApproachThe project has been designed with a strong energy eficiency criteria and lighting power density for the 14000m squared meters interior is 2,4 W/ m2.
The full control system based on and daylighting balance and time operation allows the careful use of lighting systems power.
