Entry Description

“The Assassination of Katie Hopkins” is a new musical that holds up a mirror to society & how we engage with events via social media. It placed the world of the internet in 3D space so the set was designed to be a framework for light tools. The main component comprised two tracking walls made up of over 2,000 ‘mobile phone’ units, each with a pair of custom engineered, individually mapped LED lights to form a low resolution video wall. Content & textures reacted to sound, MIDI & motion with the help of 'VideoDust' software and always alive with ‘internet chatter’ ebbing & flowing to complement the action on stage. The walls also provided a projection surface for live feed cameras & iPhones relaying live action on stage & other graphics. This is combined seamlessly with the lower resolution textures & imagery run through the LED pixels, sharply designed light on the cast & a colour wash on the cyc resulting in a multi-layered, emotionally charged collaboration between Light & Video.
