Entry DescriptionThe product’s design represents the final element of the broader architectural lighting scheme for Corner Bar at Tate Modern, completed in 2023. Drawing on references from 1970s street lighting, the surrounding cityscape, and the cinematic atmosphere of Blade Runner, the studio created a bespoke lighting scheme rooted in theoretical lighting principles and custom designed luminaires. The cordless Corner Light emerged from this same design process, with particular attention given to proportion and materiality. Its warm glow is carefully calibrated to foster intimacy as the space transitions from a daytime café to an evening cocktail bar, while simultaneously enhancing the textures of surrounding materials and tableware.
The resulting square-form table light is both collectible and functional. A hand-blown glass shade sits atop an aged brass base—a living material that develops a unique patina over time. This compact, geometric form combines cordless practicality with timeless elegance, making it equally suited to hospitality and residential settings. The emphasis on materiality, as previously mentioned, was central to the design intent, particularly the glass shade, which diffuses and refracts the 1800K LED light source to create a luminous core reminiscent of candlelight.
Sustainability ApproachOur vision was to design a product with lasting purpose, ensuring what we created continues to hold value long after trends fade. We believe purposeful design builds resilience, relevance, and a deeper connection over time. By prioritising functionality, and timeless qualities, we trust the cordless table light will endure and evolve rather than become quickly outdated.
NEOZ share this ethos with their proven track record of blending beautiful cordless lamps with a sustainable approach. Every element of the Corner light is replaceable or repairable. Not only this NEOZ have developed a sustainability path that will make them carbon-neutral by 2030. Initiatives such as a lithium-ion battery recycling program, plastic free recyclable packaging, a completely solar power head office, and the right-to-repair are only some of the ingenuities considered to ensure a carbon neutral future.
