Entry Description

A dramatic arts school’s dining center owes its inspiration to the theater. The architecture embodies elements of a stage: exposed brick walls, visible ductwork and abstract prosceniums. The lighting adds a bold graphic to these forms.
On the ground floor, linear fixtures articulate the wooden arches. Alternating with linear pendants, they create a graphic sequence across the dining area. A brightly-lit stair draws students to the lower level for additional seating.
The highlight of this lower level is a flexible event space. Large hoop fixtures create a dynamic ceiling composition that adds drama and sparkle. Interspersed among the hoops, luminous textile ceiling fixtures use video feeds to provide endless colors and patterns. By day, the space is a comfortable gathering place for students. At night, the lighting transforms the space into a cabaret for performances or after-hours socializing.
The lighting solution is flexible and expressive, aptly reflecting the school’s culture.
