Entry Description

Community Canvas is a digital art installation that transforms existing architectural elements such as windows and building facades into artistic canvases for the community via projection.

For BLT Harbor Point, we created custom content that ranged from clips highlighting community members and on-site amenities & events to more abstract artistic pieces inspired by the environment.

A rising sun illuminates the morning routes of passing joggers; dogs chase bouncing tennis balls as they catapult across the windows; and kids watch the space fill suddenly with a cascading waterfall, then empty and transform to a field of flowers.

The clips are projected onto street-level windows of the development’s leasing center in the evenings, enlivening the sidewalk for passersby and projecting the messaging of the center outside the building after the interior has closed down for the day.
Sustainability Approach

We opted with the client for laser projectors over traditional projectors to reduce lamp replacement needs over time.

Additionally, the translucent film that was applied to the front windows of the building to make them suitable for rear projection also reduced glare and heat from the sun, making the room more comfortable for those working inside during the day and lowering the level of air-conditioning needed.
