Entry Description

In the heart of Nicosia, Cyprus, Labs Tower by Eraclis Papachristou Architects redefines the skyline with its 22-storey mixed-use design, celebrating transparency and exposed structure. V-shaped and X-shaped columns are revealed at strategic junctions (floors 4–5, 13–14, the lobby, and the striking crown). The façade’s “kit of parts” approach contrasts the city’s low-rise Mediterranean surroundings. Archtube Architectural Lighting Design, with illumination Physics, developed a lighting scheme that makes these structural forms the focal point, using precision to minimise glare and maximise visual impact. The crown’s outward-facing X columns, a complex challenge, inspired the custom-engineered "Horizon" luminaire—dual-head, multi-LED, asymmetrically lensed for perfect uniformity top to bottom. Alongside tailored recessed downlights and inground uplights, the design merges architecture and illumination into a bold, modernist statement, transforming structure into an illuminated landmark.
Sustainability Approach

Labs Tower’s lighting is designed for maximum visual impact with minimal environmental cost. Energy efficiency drove every decision including dynamic dual white LEDs allow adaptability without excess output, while asymmetric optics and precise beam control eliminate wasted light. Remote constant current drivers simplify maintenance, enable long cable runs, and reduce electrical losses. Custom luminaires, including the bespoke “Horizon” fixture, were engineered to achieve uniform illumination with fewer fittings, avoiding over-lighting. By aligning technical precision with architectural vision, the design delivers a sustainable, low-energy solution that enhances the skyline while minimising environmental footprint.
