Entry Description

This architectural lighting renovation revitalizes Yu Jan Shin’s flagship and Jianggong storefronts—two landmark locations in Dajia, Taichung—by transforming them into luminous brand icons. Drawing inspiration from the golden crust of the brand’s signature butter pastry, the lighting design uses 3000K warm white LEDs to echo the product’s hue, forging an emotional and sensory link between architecture and flavor.
Baroque-style façades are carefully sculpted with high-efficiency, dimmable LED fixtures to highlight gables, cornices, and decorative moldings. Light layering emphasizes material textures while ensuring low glare, visual comfort, and energy efficiency. Each building’s central vertical signage is illuminated for long-distance visibility and brand recall.
This project goes beyond visibility—it reconnects community memory with local taste. By letting buildings glow like freshly baked pastries, the design narrates the warmth, elegance, and cultural legacy of Yu Jan Shin through light.
Sustainability Approach

This project prioritizes sustainability through energy-efficient design and long-term maintenance planning. All lighting fixtures use high-efficacy LED sources with low power consumption and dimmable drivers to reduce energy waste and light pollution. To extend system lifespan and reduce material turnover, all drivers and power supplies—components typically shorter-lived than LED modules—were installed indoors in accessible areas, allowing easier maintenance and fewer replacements over time. This reduces service-related waste and carbon impact. Additionally, existing infrastructure was reused where possible to minimize construction footprint. The overall approach promotes energy responsibility, operational durability, and reduced lifecycle cost.
