Entry Description

The lighting for Arcbay is composed of three elements: the plane of the rooftop, the lines of the building's facade, and the points of the podium. These three sections embody the meaning of the sky, the land, and the lives of the people who live in between.
The Exterior lighting allows the architectural form of the upper structure to be recognized from a distance, and the design is planned so that the shape of the entire complex is connected and harmonious
In addition, the lighting expresses the changing colors of the sky and the natural beauty of Songdo through a variety of media content. Befitting a residential building, the lighting is normally designed to be calm and luxurious, with media art only displayed on specific dates chosen by the residents.
This makes Arcbay particularly special, as it is the first case in Korea where a residential building's facade lighting has been used as a medium for public art.

Façade architectural indirect lighting: The lighting creates a soft, subtle glow that highlights the natural curved image of the building's façade.
The three-dimensional landscape lighting, which connects points, lines, and planes from the low-rise to the high-rise sections, creates a local landmark.
The lighting of the various buildings in the complex is all controlled simultaneously and was designed as a medium to show the complex moving as a single, unified entity.
Sustainability Approach

Using LEDs for all light fixtures makes the building eco-friendly. Each fixture is individually controlled and can be dimmed based on the surrounding brightness, making the system cost-effective. The lighting is also controlled by time of day to maximize energy efficiency and is designed for easy maintenance. The media façade allows for content updates, ensuring the building always looks new and minimizing the need for future reconstruction.
