Entry Description

This lighting design project for a restaurant in Syros draws inspiration from two emblematic natural elements of the island: the sunset and the sea. The lighting functions not only as a tool for highlighting the architecture but also as a narrative medium, creating an immersive experience that reflects the natural rhythm and allure of the Aegean landscape.

The luminous “spheres” suspended on the upper floor serve as a poetic reference to the sun’s movement across the sky. They are arranged to evoke the sun’s imaginary trajectory from sunrise to sunset, translating the motion of light into a daily ritual within the space.

Additionally, through the use of special lenses placed beneath the three spherical fixtures, the lighting adopts the warm hues of the sunset, creating an atmosphere that feels both familiar and dreamlike.

The bar area is illuminated in deep blue tones, evoking the color of the sea. The lighting subtly transitions between cool white and warm white, supporting a seamless shift in mood throughout the day.

The fixtures chosen for the interior space are characterized by organic forms inspired by seaside pebbles (Inscribed on each lighting fixture is the name of the beach from which the artist took the pebble that inspired its shape). Their materiality—crafted from recyclable materials—and their texture, reminiscent of sand, enhance the sense of natural harmony.
