Entry Description

Designing the lighting for the ski slope was a significant challenge, as many previous attempts by other designers had been unsuccessful due to objections from environmental protectionists. Their main concern was the disruption of the nocturnal life of the local wildlife. The project involved dozens of negotiations with various authorities, during which we presented our lighting model created in Dialux and ensured compliance with dark sky requirements to minimize light pollution. At the same time, we fine-tuned the lighting control system for the investor to allow for the lowest possible operating costs.
In addition to protecting nature, we had to solve technical backup solutions to prevent injuries to skiers in case of a power outage. From the investor’s perspective, we sought a solution that was the least financially demanding, as the budget did not allow for traditional LED floodlights. For this project, we used unconventional road LED luminaires Signify Unistreet, with an improved shielding design that we developed.
Sustainability Approach

Challenging Project on Ski Slope in the National Park is Preserving Nature While Modernizing Lighting. In the heart of the National Park, we have completed a very important and demanding project .A new 2,700-meter-long illuminated ski slope has been added. It has become the longest illuminated ski slope for evening skiing in Central Europe outside the Alps. This project is unique because it is located in a protected area where it is extremely important to preserve the natural environment and minimize impact on the ecosystem, as this park is home to several species of protected animals. A key requirement for obtaining approval for the project was the maximum protection of the natural surroundings. Therefore, the lighting was designed to be concentrated on the illuminated area during the night, with minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment.
