Entry Description

Our lighting design for Frank and Crown Halls at North Shore Congregation Israel pays tribute to the community’s heritage and resilience. The design weaves layered symbolism through architecturally detailed coves, indirect illumination, and expansive luminous surfaces, reducing glare and enhancing visual comfort.

Frank Hall features illuminated coves inspired by a menorah, subtly directing attention toward the main temple. A central 15.5' diameter luminous stretched-canvas fixture is haloed within a gold-painted cove.

Crown Hall features a dynamic interplay of illuminated curves, anchored by a 44’ elongated oval cove. Curved coves on either side echo the historic temple façade. Vertical perimeter illumination, curtain grazers and a one-inch downlight starfield pattern add depth and versatility, with programmable lighting scenes.

These spaces represent hope for a community deeply affected by tragedy, including the 2023 Highland Park shooting. The lighting design for Crown Hall is a tribute to the late Events and B'nei Mitzvah Coordinator, whose dedication and spirit live on in its comforting glow.
