Entry Description

The lighting design for the 2024 Hua Chenyu Mars Concert used the language of light and shadow to depict the temporal and emotional dimensions of the “Mars Coordinate System,” creating an immersive visual experience.
Lights radiated outward from the center, evoking the warmth of the sun and symbolizing the release of life’s energy. Following the rhythm of the music, subtle sparks gradually intensified into vivid red flames, illustrating the journey of life from its origin to full bloom.
The arrangement of lights simulated the movement of galaxies, and variations in linear structures added rich visual layers to the stage.

Reflections from mirror balls, lasers, and lighting created a starry sky effect, transforming the stage into a boundless cosmic universe. Projected light points morphed into geometric patterns, while carefully choreographed fixture placements and motion paths allowed red beams to mimic interstellar pulses and the flow of time—forming a dynamic visual rhythm that symbolized the evolution and growth of Martian civilization across time.
Stage lighting extended to the roof structure of the Bird’s Nest Stadium, enveloping the audience in a cocoon of light and shadow, enhancing the immersive experience. The entire venue became part of a vast galaxy, as lights expanded and contracted like petals—symbolizing the journey of life from “birth” to “blossom.”
Sustainability Approach

We used energy-efficient, reusable LED fixtures to reduce power consumption and heat emission without compromising visual impact. To minimize on-site energy use, we utilized lighting visualization software to pre-program effects in a virtual environment, streamlining setup time and reducing carbon output.
By optimizing fixture quantity and placement, we achieved rich visual expression with minimal resource use. Through these actions, we not only reduced the event’s environmental footprint but also demonstrated how stage lighting can be both impactful and sustainable.
