Entry DescriptionAliento De Luz (Spanish for Breath of Light) - is a sculptural chandelier over 5m long created for a Mallorcan finca, where architecture and interiors draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape of mountains and sea. The villa embodies barefoot luxury: sun-bleached neutrals, earthy terracottas, soft greens and an atmosphere of profound simplicity. The lighting had to echo this - gentle, organic and quietly luxurious.
Over 1500 translucent porcelain leaves, each hand-formed with subtle imprints, were suspended in long, breath-like strands. Inspired by repetition in nature, no two leaves are identical, yet together they create a cohesive entity, softly animated by natural light from nearby windows and warm dimmable LED lighting evoking candlelight.
The installation demanded both poetry and precision. A bespoke flush aluminium ceiling plate was engineered with concealed fixings, designed to support the delicate strands while maintaining an airy, weightless presence. To balance movement in a mountain-top home exposed to strong drafts, each strand was anchored with hand-polished marble spheres, wrapped and secured with natural cotton - functional yet seamlessly integrated with the villa’s materials and forms.
The result is a luminous cascade, light breathing through porcelain and stone, a meditation on nature, repetition and the elegance of restraint.
Sustainability ApproachThis project was grounded in sustainability through both material choice and process. Porcelain, used since the Tang Dynasty, is a natural, durable and endlessly recyclable material that retains its integrity for millennia. Our porcelain was sourced locally in The Potteries, the historic heart of UK ceramics, just 20 miles from our studio. Each piece was hand-formed to minimise waste, using natural shaping rather than cutting and discarding.
Local collaboration was central: nearby engineers fabricated the bespoke aluminium ceiling plate and brackets - aluminium being one of the most recyclable metals - while local electricians supported installation. By combining traditional craft with contemporary design, the chandelier is a timeless piece that will withstand the test of time beyond trends and fashions and it’s also a sustainable contribution to its environment.
