Prize(s) Honorable Mentions
University / School Name Coventry University
Lead Designers Yumeng Zhu
Completion Date September, 2018
Project Location Margate,UK
Entry Description

The project explores the idea of establishing appropriate atmospheres and narratives in the interior spaces of the Turner Contemporary Museum, so as to increase spatial usage and the quality of sensory experiences. Luminous ambiances are configured to follow a drama form, i.e. introduction, rising action, climax and falling action. Seasonal themes have been established in individual gallery to form spatial narratives. Various light patterns are customized for thematic seasonal luminous ambiances. It is a thoughtful approach that respects and applies darkness equally to light, creating a place that connects to artworks themselves rather than even visual brightness throughout all gallery spaces. The lighting cues in the spaces reflects the artistic vision of art works. The spatial configuration also allows viewers to adjust the scenes and fully adapt to lit environment of artworks. The empathy with artworks will form positive visiting experiences and thus fulfill the definition of museum.
