Entry DescriptionThe lighting service for the 80-acre project site in Charlotte’s University Research Park encompasses outdoor and interior lighting design for two office buildings, two garage buildings, a daycare building, a large central outdoor plaza, and two main courtyards.
Our design service progressed as a Design and Build project, joining during the later DD phase while construction was already underway. This required rapid design progress to catch up with the architect’s timeline. Within the first four months, we developed the lighting and provided services from Concept to DD documentation. Coordination was crucial, required frequent coordination with architects, the general contractor, and lighting vendors ensured seamless design updates, installation decisions, and timely product supply.
Challenges included the tight construction schedule and unique light installation sequences. For instance, installing cylinder pendants within Doppelganger feature louvers required lights to be installed before hanging the louvers. We developed full-scale paper templates, placed on the floor level and used a laser pointer to mark the ceiling to accurately position the lights before installing the louvers.
Through intimate coordination and numerous meetings with various teams, we successfully resolved all design and installation challenges, leading to the project’s successful completion.
Sustainability ApproachThe project complied with two matrix in Well for the interior lighting.
