Entry Description

We were tasked to create a dramatic lighting scheme to complement the refreshed luxury interior design concept of a posh elegant main holding area of an indoor arts theatre. The overall lighting design seek to accentuate the modern minimalist interior elements. As a conservation space, there were many structural limitations to navigate; while planning the lighting layout, effects and suggesting suitable product types. The main challenge was to concurrently determine if any suggested luminaires could fulfil the required lighting performance, site limitations, lead time and budget, all without a physical mock up. We could only rely on our lighting industry experience to determine the required specifications. After conducting virtual lighting experiments with various manufacturers on their products, we had to visualise and ascertain a realistic view of how things might be, prior to giving official instruction to proceed. Design aesthetics; key elements include the gradient warm lighting that combines romantic undertones with grandeur. Employing a combination of linear downlights and linear wall washers strategically positioned throughout the space, the design seeks to create layers of illumination that gives the appropriate focus to various elements in the space.
Sustainability Approach

On sustainability; the selected luminaires are of high efficacy performance (i.e low power, high lumens, CRI >92), dimmable and addressable with a smart bluetooth driver. An artistic dramatic ambience for each space was easily created via a wireless control to group and dim the lights based on the design intent. Various lighting scenes were also efficiently created with multiple stakeholders in less than 12 hours, resulting in satisfaction and confidence on the lighting design and solution by clients. Above which, the lights are configured to a low-level brightness / power during low footfall periods, ensuring the overall energy consumption was appropriate in tandem to the lighting design intent and on-site demands.
