Entry Description

This iconic landmark within the Boston skyline stands as a beacon of environmental stewardship and sustainable lighting design. Expansive glass facades and soaring atrium space allow daylight to penetrate deep into the floor plates. A dynamic daylight responsive control strategy was carefully developed to maximize energy conservation and achieve a LEED Platinum certification.? To balance the daylight, perimeter cove lights illuminate vertical surfaces throughout the building.? After sunset, the warm wash of light provides a lantern-like ambiance. The balance and subtle transition of the lighting over the course of the day create an environment rich in collaboration, interconnectivity, and innovation.
Sustainability Approach

For the University of Boston Data Sciences Center, our team strived to reach the necessary light levels for a university building while keeping the number of fixtures to a minimum. The fixtures used are high output low energy LEDs, which are coupled with occupancy sensors and daylight sensors, allowing for less energy consumption. The power for the lighting derives from geothermal sources, further adding to the sustainability of the project.
