Entry Description

The nightscape lighting design for Hangzhou's Binjiang District is focused on four areas: the riverside path system, vertical river section system, orange-blue ribbon system, and architectural landscape node system.

Riverside Path System: Covering the Binjiang walking area, the design uses smart light poles, ground linear lights, translucent concrete railings, projections, tree lighting, and step lighting to create a varied, layered nighttime effect.

Vertical River Section System: These sections open spaces connecting the city to the riverbank, offering themed experiences. A single pole supports multiple lights, providing functional lighting and thematic projections of elements like water and nature, enhancing the unique night environment.

Orange-Blue Ribbon System (Running and Cycling Paths): Spanning 12 km, the lighting corresponds to the path colors (orange and blue), guiding runners and cyclists. Lights at intervals create an interactive experience and improve spatial awareness.

Architectural Landscape Node System: Key areas like the 12 stations and Qiantang scenic spots use spotlights, embedded lights, and linear lighting to highlight architectural forms. Colored lights respond to tide levels, while multi-headed light poles and tree lights enhance the atmosphere, creating a vibrant night experience for residents.
Sustainability Approach

Smart Light Poles: Integrated smart poles provide lighting, signage, surveillance, Wi-Fi, and alarms, available in three styles for different road needs.

Translucent Concrete: Railings and sculptures feature optical fiber lighting with DMX512 control for changing colors and effects.

Interactive LED Ground: A 200-square-meter LED ground at Pu Yuan combines sensors and displays for immersive play, especially for kids.

Water Show: At Shechao Plaza, an artificial lake hosts light and water shows during holidays, attracting visitors.

Interactive Projections: Riverside projections create immersive experiences with changing themes for different events.

Low-Level Lighting: Hidden lights in flowerbeds on Cherry Blossom Avenue provide subtle path lighting without glare.
