Entry Description

In the universe, everything is formed from the union of smaller components. This idea inspired the modular lamp design, which reuses old metal slats from Venetian blinds—originally intended to control light—in a creative way. In this project, the recycled slats are used not to block light but to distribute it in 360 degrees. The main challenge was to use the least amount of materials to create a lightweight, efficient, and sustainable lamp. The modular and striking design allows for various configurations to control and reflect light. The interplay of light and shadow, without direct visibility of the light source due to the curvature of each slat, along with vibrant colors, creates a dynamic and lively atmosphere.

The lamp's structure consists of three main parts. First, the skeleton was made of three laser-cut Plexiglass sheets, which serve as the main supporting structure. Next, the lamp's shade was formed from lengthwise-cut aluminum Venetian blind slats, carefully placed in the Plexiglass slots. Finally, a low-power, heat-efficient 360-degree LED light was installed at the center, ensuring even light distribution. Thanks to the slats' curvature, the light source remains hidden, sparking curiosity and avoiding eye strain. The lamp measures 130 cm in length and 25 cm in diameter.
Sustainability Approach

In today’s world, rethinking resource usage is essential. My modular lamp design stems from this mindset, aimed at repurposing materials that might seem obsolete but have the potential for a new life. The metallic slats from old Venetian blinds, originally used to control light, are creatively repurposed to diffuse light in all directions. This reuse reduces metal waste and results in a sustainable, minimalist lamp requiring fewer new materials.

The focus was on reducing the carbon footprint. From modular design to recycled materials, each step minimizes energy consumption during production and use. The low-energy, 360-degree LED light also reduces heat output, enhancing energy efficiency. This lamp embodies the principles of a circular economy, where each part is reborn with renewed purpose and beauty.
