Entry DescriptionIn a high-rise concrete jungle of Hong Kong’s bustling - Causeway bay, this cosmetic medical centre has opened its new flagship store, a 300-square-metre space redefining the experience of cosmetic medical centre with a futuristic and aesthetic cave. It allows every visitor to experience a natural sense of beauty by traveling through spatial experience, away from the hustle and bustle of society.
In terms of spatial planning, the design prioritizes three key spaces: the treatment rooms, the waiting area, and the staff back-of-house area. The layout incorporates Feng Shui principles while maximizing the stunning views of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour. To minimize noise disturbance in the treatment rooms, the waiting area and a "tunnel" serve as a buffer zone, separating the treatment rooms from the back-of-house area. The featured tunnel, connecting the main entrance to the waiting area, also creates a dramatic transition from the narrow entrance to the spacious waiting area. The waiting area is designed as a multi-purpose space, seamlessly connecting with the back-of-house area. This flexibility allows for future use as a product launch or staff training area, enhancing the salon's functionality and adaptability.
Sustainability ApproachAs a place closely related to people’s health and beauty, a beauty centre should also consider sustainability factors in its operations. Choosing to use local materials and craftsmanship is the key of sustainable idea during the construction and renovation process of a beauty centre. The long-lasting textured painting and local labour craftsmanship helps reduce carbon emissions from long-distance transportation and promotes local economic development. Additionally, traditional local craftsmanship provides employment opportunities and helps protect and preserve local cultural heritage. Moreover, opting for a single wall and ceiling material is an effective sustainability strategy. Traditionally, many buildings used multiple materials for decoration, which not only increased resource consumption but also made maintenance and updates more challenging.
