Entry DescriptionInspired by spy films, Corner to Corner Design Studio has designed a modern Chinese restaurant called "The Voynich" located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
The journey begins at the restaurant entrance, which sets as the “Intro of the movie." The "Roulette Area" serves as the entrance; since this is “the start of a movie”," it is designated to make guests feel like they have entered another space while waiting in this area. The feature wall is adorned with top-band and side-band neon lights, and the light source refracts through the neon lights to provide ample illumination.
We will be at the "Curiosity Room," which features a bar table in mid of the area, surrounded by comfortable sofas. Each hound statue got an uplift lighting to illuminate underneath the dining tables, making the dog figurines appear as though they come to life, like protecting the dining customers. Birdcages hang from the ceiling above the bar, with neon lights illuminating them, making the birds inside appear to flutter animatedly.
The "Wisdom Room" serves as the primary dining area, designed with inspiration from Bond's classic DB5 sports car. The wall sconces mimic rearview mirrors, while the lighting in the booth area resembles car bumpers. The spherical decorative lights on the booth walls are controlled by a DMX system, producing various light and dark variations that flicker like Morse code.
Sustainability ApproachTo address venue constraints and ceiling height limitations, this lighting design employs a significant amount of indirect light and decorative wall lights. COB spotlights are only used when absolutely necessary, ensuring that the overall space does not compromise the dining experience due to restrictions.
In terms of energy efficiency, apart from using dimming systems different wattages have been chosen for various lamp sources, including ceiling lights, furniture light strips, and skirting light strips. The lighting fixtures utilize COB LED modules, allowing for easy module replacements without the need to fully replace the fixtures, thereby optimising costs.
