Entry DescriptionThe lighting brief was to create a new brand identity and elevated dining experience for TGR Steakhouse. Entering the space, guests are greeted by a curved wall of handcrafted concrete blocks featuring off-centre voids, allowing glimpses into the dining area, with strategic inground uplighting creating captivating shadows and a sense of curiosity. The main dining room is a grand hall with an open ceiling, divided into three distinct zones: an upscale, high-visibility area, intimate circular booths, and a lively, casual zone adjacent to the open kitchen. Branching off the central axis are additional intimate spaces - a private dining room and bar. The bar is the focal point: three towering arched structures in glossy black piano. 3D-Bend RGB LED linears were designed and installed within the arches to accentuate the feature, producing colourful and dynamic lighting effects against the reflective surfaces. The combination of 2400K and 2700K high-CRI fixtures cast a warm, contemporary glow, creating a comfortable yet intimate atmosphere. Decorative pendants provide soft overhead illumination, while accent lights highlight each table. Cove lighting, under-counter lights, and shelf lighting outline the architectural features, creating a harmonious balance of high, mid, and low-level lighting. Carefully curated scenes allowed seamless transitions between dining & event settings.
Sustainability Approach100% of the architectural lighting fixtures were locally sourced with immediate availability to lower carbon footprints and time. All decorative lighting was custom-made and/or sourced locally. Illumination levels were calculated using lighting software to ensure compliance with lighting and an energy guide to ensure the retail space was well-lit but not overlit. All fixtures are LED and dimmable, with all downlights using COB modules to lower energy and heat usage. Timers were used to ensure energy saving during off-peak hours, while digital dimming controls provided flexibility for different lighting usages and prolongation of lamp life. Lighting circuitries were carefully designed to minimise power supply quantities, reducing cost and energy usage.
