Entry Description

Opso Dubai is a multisensory dining experience from Bishop Design. The lighting scheme reinforces the user journey and uses layers of light to adjust the mood as the restaurant transitions from day to night. Playful illumination features add further visual interest and drama.

Guests access Opso via an immersive walkway featuring a starlit fibre optic ceiling. The ceiling is motion activated and creates an energetic play of light that pulls guests through to the bar.

The lighting in the bar was integrated to give the vibrant design narrative space to breathe. Recessed downlights direct functional illumination onto the bar, while gentle lines of light accentuate the bar, showpiece kitchen, and architectural columns.

In the restaurant, indirect illumination creates a subtle atmospheric glow to complement the interactive screens. A lattice-style ceiling is the main focal point and features integrated RGBW LEDs, which form a pulsating effect across the ceiling.

Considered use of light amplifies the mood in the Shisha area, where a fibre optic ceiling evokes a celestial feel and is enhanced by a band of RGBW cove lighting and a backlit metal-framed wall. In the Shisha lounge, narrow-beam downlights and cove lighting produce an enveloping blanket of light, broken up by beams of laser light that interact with the smoke to form swirling visual effects.
Sustainability Approach

Consideration was given to the efficiency of the scheme. High quality LED fittings were employed throughout and the team used an intelligent control system to allow light levels to be dimmed down at key points, to reduce energy usage where possible.
