Entry Description

Grand Hyatt Jakarta first opened its door in July of 1991. Located right in the heart of Jakarta, its strategic location at the roundabout of the iconic Welcome Monument led the hotel to flourish year after year. Light Directions was appointed to assist with the refurbishment of the hotel.
The drop-off area design is inspired from nature, mainly the woven natural palm leaf from Kalimantan. The lighting scheme is developed to create remarkable ambience at night which levels up aesthetic values and improve comfort levels.
Surface mounted linear graze lights concealed in well detailed slot are used to enhance the beauty of podium fascia finishing. By utilising the ceiling cove light as well as the recessed floor uplight and sleek recessed linear downlight, the visitors can feel that they are embraced to enter the interior lobby.
The concept of Kalimantan nature is continued to the interior lobby atrium design. The objective of the lighting design is to maintain the elegance and grand atmosphere. Concealed LED light was used predominantly throughout to provide accent to balustrade, wall feature and ceiling coves. A touch of theatre is introduced to the atrium with the usage of uplight to create the palm leaf shadows on ceiling.
The choice of warm white light evokes a welcoming and intimate ambience that acknowledges the Grand Hyatt’s status as a luxury 5 stars hotel.
Sustainability Approach

All of the light fixtures installed are using LED and operated by dimming control system to allow the necessary scenes and seamless transition through the day and night. By using dimming control system, the light intensity can be adjusted according to the requirements and certainly the electricity consumption can be reduced.
