Entry DescriptionThe Interior Lighting Lab is a pioneering facility that transforms the educational experience for Interior Design students, enabling them to engage directly with the sensory, environmental, and psychological aspects of lighting. As the first of its kind in the Arab world, it is a cornerstone of the Interior Design program. It offers a state-of-the-art environment with advanced devices that replicate the complexities of real-world spaces. In the lab, students explore various types of lamps to understand their properties and learn to create different interior scenes using a variety of luminaires and integrated lighting systems. This hands-on approach allows them to experiment with light levels to achieve comfort and aesthetic harmony in spaces. The lab also emphasizes studying lighting's effects on materials, encouraging students to analyze these interactions to enhance user experience. Beyond basic experiments, students explore diverse colors and their influence on interior designs, and the lab serves as a hub for studying exhibition lighting design and its regulations. Unique features like the "Dali System," advanced light projectors, a professionally designed acoustic environment, and a first-of-its-kind rotated panel make the lab an unparalleled resource.
Sustainability ApproachLooking to the future, the Lighting Lab is set to play a crucial role in developing an Interior Lighting Specialization, which will be offered as a professional study option for final-year students. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce a Master’s Degree in Interior Lighting Design as part of the future Master’s program in Interior Design at the University. Through these initiatives, the Lighting Lab will continue to lead the way in providing an exceptional, holistic learning experience that prepares students for the diverse challenges of the interior design profession. Faculty members with a background in lighting and acoustics also utilize the lab to experiment and innovate, contributing to the broader field of research in these areas.
