Entry Description

The lighting of this private home has an effortless quality that creates a warm, harmonious atmosphere. However, the ease of the design belies the compositional considerations and technical detailing required to produce the total effect.
The approach to the house’s portal introduces the natural materials used throughout its design, and the first of many ways in which the lighting reveals those materials. The lighting of the expansive wood ceiling is a unifying motif, linking the home’s interior and exterior spaces. Custom fixtures, carefully detailed into this ceiling, are outfitted with lenses that are varied to illuminate specific art pieces. This solution provides museum-quality art lighting that remains appropriate for a residential environment.
The lighting design achieves a fine balance between aesthetic choices and practical considerations. Reflecting off an architectural palette of locally-sourced, natural materials, the lighting suffuses the house with a hearth-like glow.
