Entry DescriptionThe exhibition occupies two floors and explores projects, models, and photographs from the 1920s-1930s, highlighting the utopian dreams and aspirations of constructivist architects. The main focus of the project is on color and color combinations, which are a challenge due to the complex shades. Each room has a permanent track system and the team was limited in its work by the particular set of equipment available at the Zotov Center. The team has faced challenges trying to balance between architects’ requirements for sufficient architectural lighting and the necessity to accommodate various lighting conditions of the exhibit colors. In addition, there were strict lighting standards for the exhibit.
The experience of combining indirect and accent lighting in the exposition was very challenging. The showcases played an important role and it was necessary to achieve light uniformity inside niches. Accent and general lighting were combined to emphasize the visual purity and integrity of the showcase rectangular shape. Other than that, the interior light fulfills the navigation function. It was also necessary to position the light in a manner that didn’t obscure the projections on the walls and screens.
Despite all restraints and challenges, the exhibition successfully demonstrates fascinating and complex color combinations.
Sustainability ApproachThis exhibition was developed with the available museum equipment, both track fixtures and lighting fixtures inside the showcases: various profiles and LED strips. Re-use helped to preserve resources, even though it limits lighting designers to a certain extent, making such a project a true challenge.
