Entry Description

Alchemy Origin’s interior scheme draws inspiration from the topography of coffee farms. Warm white CCT and high CRI luminaires enhance the colours and textures, cultivating a warm atmosphere that celebrates authenticity and connection to coffee origins.

The full-height glass wall allows generous daylight to illuminate the space, complemented by artificial lighting to balance areas lacking natural light.

The pendant above the bar reflects ambience and provides focused task lighting for the espresso area, while the uplight enhances height. Downlight wall washers illuminate the menu and terracotta wall for added effect. Round artificial skylights serve as “lighting pods,” creating evocative spaces. Sculpted ceiling fins with concealed uplights resemble an illuminated river. Any array of bespoke glass pendants with integrated spotlights and narrow-beamed luminaires above seating create a veil of soft atmospherical glow while highlighting tables and enhancing privacy. A coffee pod-inspired shelf with downlights displays sentimental items from coffee farms. Several light scenes were designed; artificial lighting is dimmed during daytime to save energy and allow natural light appreciation. Light levels are gradually adjusted in the evening to maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Overall, the lighting design creates a stunning, sustainable space that conveys the brand's story.
Sustainability Approach

Alchemy Origin's interior design prioritized sustainability and energy efficiency. All architectural lighting fixtures were locally sourced to reduce carbon footprints, while decorative lighting was custom-made locally. Lighting levels were meticulously calculated using software to ensure adequate, but not excessive, illumination. All fixtures used dimmable LED technology, with COB modules in downlights to minimise energy consumption and heat. Timers and digital dimming controls were implemented to optimise energy savings during off-peak hours and enable flexible lighting scenes. The lighting circuitry was carefully designed to minimise power supply requirements, further reducing costs and energy usage.
