Entry Description800 W. Fulton is situated in a former warehouse and industrial neighborhood in Chicago’s Fulton Market District.
The 40 ft. Lobby features a cantilevered mezzanine and staircase. Brick, steel, and concrete embody the neighborhood’s industrial history, while lighting reveals the warmth, texture, and architectural form.
10x60-degree linear fixtures “graze” brick walls from the top and bottom, creating a warm, inviting gradient and highlighting of the “800” address. The mezzanine and stair appear to float as light skims through a 9” wide gap at the wall. Lighting accentuates the ceiling height yet adds intimacy. Fascias conceal fixtures and cylinder downlights provide general illumination.
Under the mezzanine, tasklights illuminate planters. Concealed uplights illuminate the underside of the warm concrete.
Modern pendants orient visitors to the security desk. Elevator lobbies feature multi-cell downlights and wall slots that accentuate frosted glass wall panels.
Linear “grazers” in Lounge and Prefunction areas accentuate brick behind floating shelves. Small downlights provide soft, ambient light. Pendants bring focus to seating areas.
The top floor features a bar, lounge, game room, and terrace. Pendants are keyed to seating and gaming areas. Uplights accentuate the bar shelving and perforated metal. Pathlights delineate planters and create a warm, welcoming space.
Sustainability ApproachAll lighting fixtures utilize LED sources that have a rated life of 50,000 hours or longer. A lighting control system dims fixtures based on occupancy, daylight, and/or time of day to further reduce energy usage. The project complies with the IECC-2018 energy code and received both WELL Platinum and LEED Platinum certifications.
