Entry DescriptionWest End Square, a smart park in Historic Dallas, served as a testbed for advanced technologies enhancing leisure and community in public spaces. Its lighting solution, designed with a community focus, sets the example for stellar civic spaces.
Proximity to neighboring properties necessitated a transformative lighting strategy. Multiple layers of integrated light, blending color temperature, intensity, and uniformity, defined active areas and serene moments.
Sustainability and reduced light trespass were prioritized through a wireless adaptive dimming control system, which lowered intensity to 10% after hours. Triggered by motion sensors, full intensity is restored until five minutes of stillness. This strategy achieved a 64% reduction in connected load and surpassed energy code requirements by 46%.
The trellis, enveloping the park, provided a welcoming frame of light and accommodated IoT elements while maintaining a clean aesthetic. Cool white adjustable area lights atop columns illuminated the garden and created captivating shadows, while warm white bollards within the garden assisted wayfinding.
West End Square, a model of urban innovation, fostered community connectivity and economic growth. The lighting enhanced visibility, promoted wellness, and offered a safe outdoor space for residents to live, work, and play, especially during its timely opening Spring of 2021.
