Entry DescriptionGaleries Lafayette’s new retail destination in Shenzhen features beautifully curated spaces that adhere to a ‘Breathing Fashion’ theme. The lighting design reinforces the narrative, helping to draw out the creativity and add a strong dose of emotion and character. Light was integrated into the infrastructure of the store to create a backbone of ambient illumination, then supplemented with decorative details to form a visual tapestry of light.
An illuminated archway inspired by the The Eiffel Tower – a symbol of Galeries Lafayette’s Parisian roots - greets shoppers and is replicated elsewhere in the circulation areas to form a unifying design language. French-inspired architecture gives way to bold use of colour and light in the Beauty Boulevard, where a huge floral creation featuring suspended globe pendants elevates the space from functional to theatrical.
In the men’s fashion section, dramatic lines of light border the mesh frame display units and give rise to an unapologetically bold aesthetic and energetic tone. The ambience is noticeably softer in the women’s fashion area. Diffuse lines of light illuminate the architectural grid in the ceiling, clusters of globe pendants offset the minimalism and an illuminated pink mirror turns a simple pause point into a genuine wow moment.
Sustainability ApproachThroughout the beauty department, Nulty used an LED beauty module to optimise the lighting to complement different skin tones. The fittings feature a 2:1 ratio of beauty and artistic LED modules, which deliver better colour rendition for shoppers sampling makeup.
