Entry Description

The Moxy is a stylish hotel that targets a young demographic in Austin, TX. The public areas are centered around the focal bar/reception desk. The client refused to accept LED lighting except for linear warm-dim fixtures & we still had to meet the 2015 IECC. The main lobby & bar spaces have black ceilings, presenting huge challenges for a typical indirect ambient lighting approach. Due to the black ceilings the lighting concept had to rely on reinforcing the vertical surfaces & decorative elements, particularly the main bar & decorative shelving. Standard budget restrictions were identified early & allowed us to move forward with specified & acceptable alternates. A dimming system is utilized in every public space. Time-clock settings & fade times are instrumental in transitioning from day to night & bringing as much attention to the bar as possible. Surface mounted adjustable fixtures spot tables & highlight decorative items on shelving while allowing the bar to remain the primary glow. All LED light sources incorporate warm-dim technology that allows lighting to become warmer & golden as it dims, blending in with the traditional incandescent & halogen light sources.
