Entry Description

This Project included all public & guest room areas in a boutique luxury hotel in Silicon Valley. Lighting power densities exceeded California’s Title 24 requirements. A dimming system is utilized in every public space. With entire walls of glass on one side of the public spaces, the balance of daylight & artificial light, particularly with the interior dark grey ceilings, is critical. The main public spaces were designed with exposed dark grey ceilings, presenting a challenge for a typical indirect ambient lighting approach. The introduction of custom wood slat floating canopies throughout provided a warm decorative solution to the industrial open ceiling & gave the custom antique brass pendants’ warm-dim LED uplighting a surface with which to reflect indirect light within each space. While the floating panels carried the ceiling plane, the unique artworks & finishes throughout allowed focal accents on multiple vertical surfaces to pop. Architectural elements at the elevator lobby & other feature walls were dramatically outlined & washed to emphasize their strength & important role in the design.
