Entry Description

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall, World Pride hosted a Times Square closing ceremony with feat artists including Melissa Etheridge, Jake Shears, Mel C "Sporty Spice," Deborah Cox, & MNEK. The goal was to design an electric feeling of joy and excitement in the stage and lighting. We created a staggered backdrop strobe-pixel controlled structure that resembled skyscrapers in forced perspective with the addition of large-faced lighting fixtures that would extend off each vertical to form a pair of wings that would back light performers or act as scenic background lights. We also designed two flanking, open-angled goal posts that allowed us to frame the stage picture. These structures also housed large-faced lighting fixtures to help carry the energy stage left and right within the visual. Added moving spots & washes throughout the plaza were used to energize the audience and illuminate the talents onstage. In the heart of Times Square we created a brighter, more colorful experience for such a positive and meaningful celebration of remembrance.
