Company Symmetry Labs
Lead Designers Symmetry Labs
Completion Date August 2017
Project Location San Francisco, California
Entry Description

An enormous climbable tree with over 25,000 leaves. Tenere is a canvas of light comprised of 140,000 individually addressable LEDs.

Tenere is an interactive light sculpture that runs a state of the art 3D visualization software, allowing the lights to respond to music, motion, EEG and pulse sensors. Symmetry Labs developed Tenere as an experimental lighting canvas to test out various sensors and LED control modules. The team at Symmetry developed the leaves using a process developed in-house using a custom injected moulded polyurethane composite that incorporates tiny glass beads for light diffusion.

Symmetry also developed an advanced computer vision process to map the naturalistic and somewhat chaotic spatial configuration of LEDs.

The team at Symmetry Labs consists of programmers, sculptors, musicians, and more. We're proud of the Tree of Tenere and hope you enjoy our submission for the 2017 LIT Lighting Designer of the Year Award.
