Entry Description

The lighting design of the Cathedral of Guatemala was developed within the "City of Light" project. Light works as the force of enlightenment that unifies all material and spiritual elements, returning the meaning of universal unity and values.
The main objective of the project was to promote the aesthetic and cultural revaluation of the area, generate social integration and improve lighting levels, as well as increase nocturnal tourist activity and transmit positive values to new generations.
The positioning of the luminaries sought to mitigate any negative impact on the environment. The technology allows the light to be framed in such a way that it illuminates only the architecture with a minimum of glare. Accents were added to highlight the sculptural elements such as the clock or religious figures. Different lighting technologies were combined to ensure a low level of electricity consumption. The lighting was solved by long distance shots avoid architectural deterioration.
