Project Location Tokyo, JAPAN
Entry Description

At this publishing house headquarters, work space and meeting rooms are used to endlessly check manuscripts. Subsequently, 1000lx is required for tabletop illumination. Ceiling lights are fitted with order-made film so the high illumination is not overpoweringly bright.
Because of publishing industry irregular workloads and deadlines, staff are always in the building. Since 24-hr usage was one condition, instead of wall-mounted switches, human and brightness sensors control lighting in carefully divided areas, along with a numerically set lighting timetable, to create both a comfortable, but energy-friendly working environment.
Simple lighting methods in stairways and hallways connect departments on the same and different floors, allowing staff to communicate, exchange information and have creative inspiration throughout the building.
Façade lighting softly wash the uniquely, slanted outer architectural wall at foot level, also adding a sense of brightness to the adjacent sidewalk.
