Entry Description

When we talk about California's history of architecture and the Arts & Crafts movement, the crowning 1908 Pasadena Gamble House by Greene and Greene is often regarded its pinnacle. Its heavy roof structures, deep overhangs, and wide swaths of glass help blur the lines between inner and outer spaces. In the freshly conceptualized Newport Beach Country Club, its use of thick stone columns, wide wooden beams, and oversized pendants are sweetly balanced in this modern interpretation of this historic style. Visual tasks associated with typical ballrooms and support spaces also had to photograph/video well and easily transition to the next public event. To solve this, we used the same lamps throughout, consistently applying a warm CCT, high CRI, and optical distributions across multiple platforms. Despite the ever progressing LED and controls technologies, this warm and inviting project was able to embrace the 21st century while paying homage to California's signature past.
