Entry Description

The Khalifa University extension is made up of 169,630 sqm consisting of four buildings, interconnected with the use of a unique ‘spine’ that extends from the first building to the last on all floors. These buildings house Abudhabi’s first medical school, the Engineering department, sports complex and research and development facilities.

The primary goal of the project was to develop a lighting design concept that would play an important part in shaping the identity of the space while providing a visually comfortable, functional and inspiring ambiance. This was achieved by transforming architectural elements into artistic and futuristic lighting sources at night, utilizing customized fixtures that would accommodate the specific functions of each space and ensuring that the lighting level standards were reached. Moreover, it was important to ensure that every step taken was within the Estidama limits in order to create a sustainable final result.
