Entry DescriptionWanping Theater is a comprehensive and professional opera theatre in Shanghai. The building concept is derived from the "Folding Fan" in Chinese opera, which could express an elegant appearance and unique Chinese culture.
Firstly, lighting design is based on the law of visual brightness adaptation, space luminance distribution and brightness changes on the pedestrian flow line. We planned a lighting experience for the audience from the outdoor to the entrance and then the indoor lobby to the public space and finally to the audience hall through the sound gate.
Secondly, in the public space, we paid more attention to the wall and ceiling lighting that improves people’s visual brightness perception. The challenge of this design is the low interior height. Linear light is used to illuminate the public space walls to improve the spatial visual brightness and reduce people's sense of oppression in the low height space.
The design principles of vertical lighting were applied to the whole project, to achieve a better perception of spatial visual brightness. High color rendering lamps were used to ensure the expression of colorful costumes and paintings in traditional Chinese opera.
