Entry Description

Barbara Balestreri’s lightecture for the major exhibition of Renaissance icon Caravaggio in Milan follows the artist’s path highlighting the vibrant colours and luminosity of the canvas. In the early works the painter used diffused light, over the years, shadow contrasts grew sharper. In his latest masterpieces Caravaggio used to make emerge figures from dark-painted backgrounds. “We wanted visitors to explore Caravaggio through a path of shadows that becomes darker and darker”. The lightecture responds to the light direction of each painting, luminous halos which seem to expands from the canvas invite visitors to walk into the Caravaggio’s atmospheres.
