Entry Description

In May 2019, H&M opened a new flagship store in Oslo in a historical building from 1800s. The original facade is listed as cultural heritage. It has been preserved, refurbished and has been given new lighting.
Zenisk got a task to design new lighting for the facade which will show the building as an important landmark. The building is located in Oslo's most central and most popular pedestrian area, Karl Johan's Street, which is known for outstandingly preserved architecture and great shopping experiences.
The facade lighting is designed in such a way to highlight the architectural features of the building, but appear as evenly illuminated whole. Carefully balanced contrasts bring out the three-dimensionality of the facade in a subtle way. From distance, the building is well balanced and softly lit, while on approach it mesmerises with its soft contrasts and details.
The newly built tower consists of three levels which differ in size and expression, and have correspondingly varying lighting effect.
All fixtures have precise optic, custom shielding and are dimmable, which gives the opportunity to fine-tune the light levels, reduce energy consumption and limit light pollution.
