Entry Description

The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City underwent a renovation of their main lobby with the intent of creating a multi- purpose space to display the art of their students. A modular museum space with complete flexibility to highlight the pieces from as small as a pair of earrings to as large as a fifteen foot sculpture. The entirety of this project was designed within a 3000 Kelvin color palette giving the art a dynamic dimensional McCandless effect being lit warm while daylight floods the space. In the Lobby, LED track heads are individually controlled have the ability to aim (pan/tilt) and dim via ipad interface while more than twenty feet away from its user. This technology along with integral dimming of the other architectural lighting allows the university to create endless looks in the space to better present their students artwork. A fluidity of continuous linears along straight and serpentine routing also help transitions between the spaces continuing the contemporary vibe. Overall, this new lobby for FIT is the perfect “fit,” an innovative space for innovative thinkers.
