Entry Description

A world-class facility designed to support Surrey’s vision, “the future lives here", the Grandview Heights Aquatic Centre was designed as a community destination and aquatic facility for both recreational, therapeutic, and competitive users. The facility’s main attraction is a 10-lane, 50m FINA-standard, Olympic-size competition pool. This challenging project required balancing energy efficiency and FINA requirements while showcasing the modern architectural elements of the building. In order to reduce energy consumption, AES designed the lighting in the main lobby to be sourced from the outside and surrounding rooms. Further supporting the architectural vision of blending the inside and outside environments, AES selected theatrical style lighting to illuminate the organic curvature of the wood frame ceiling. Additionally, clusters of three luminaires were featured on either side of the pool, using angled crossbeams to provide full lighting coverage.
