Entry Description

The “lightecture” for Museo di Palazzo Pretorio Prato combines site-specific design solutions which reinterpret Renaissance chandeliers with a modern yet respectful twist. The collections are disposed on three floors; halls with antique wooden ceilings required a special intervention which could preserve the original spaces without adding visually invasive structures to lit the artworks below. Barbara Balestreri conceived hanging lightings with luminous units disposed at different heights and pointing to different directions in order to both highlight the overall space, the ceilings and each single exhibits. The designs were inspired by chandeliers and merge with the historical environment providing also a practical solution which allows to tailor light differently to each artwork.
